Be part of the Ally Effect - the 2026 campaign for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia

For its 24th edition, the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia will feature a large public march in Montreal

Mise à jour de l'auteur

To mark the 24th International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, held on May 17 each year, the Fondation Émergence announces its campaign and public march under the slogan “The Ally Effect is on the Move.”

This year’s event comes at a particularly concerning time. Hostile rhetoric, hate, and attacks against LGBTQ+ people are on the rise, both online and in public spaces. Several reports recently published in Quebec point to a marked increase in hate speech and a climate that undermines the well-being and dignity of LGBTQ+ people.

“More than ever, the presence, active listening, and support of allies are essential to counter these setbacks. Today, 61% of Canadians consider themselves allies: our campaign aims to translate this solidarity into concrete actions. Participating in the campaign and marching on May 17 means taking clear action and affirming that we choose to act collectively to continue moving toward a more inclusive society,” explains Laurent Breault, Executive Director of Fondation Émergence.

At the heart of the campaign is a powerful and human-centered main video:

“The Best Allies”

Through pairs consisting of a member of the LGBTQ+ community and an ally, the video highlights a simple truth:

inclusion is built together, day by day.

At a time when hate speech is on the rise, this campaign reminds us that every action counts.

The campaign also features four short videos, each highlighting an inspiring pair.
